True North Sports & Entertainment is currently hiring for the following positions:

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER - MTS ICEPLEX

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the planning, execution and economic performance of all Food & Beverage programming activity and service at True North's 4-pad multiplex ice facility (the "Iceplex").

Detailed Responsibilities:

Ongoing:

  • Responsible for all Food & Beverage HR functions: sourcing, hiring, training, scheduling, and reviews.
  • Assess labor, food and other variable cost vs. revenue and adjust accordingly.
  • Actively involved in marketing efforts to promote the Iceplex restaurant and other food and beverage offerings
  • Menu development, costing and implementation with support from the Kitchen Manager.
  • Coordinate and oversee all catering functions.
  • Provide on-site management for Restaurant, Concession and Vending.
  • Ensure all civic, provincial, and federal requirements are met for food and beverage regarding licensing, permits, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee ordering and receiving and inventory control for all products and supplies.
  • Create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Working with facility management, development of new opportunities and revenue streams.

Periodic:

  • Assist the Accounting Department with the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L statements for the food and beverage operations.
  • Conduct regular product inventories to assess performance and adjust accordingly.

Organizationally:

For all facets of food & beverage programming:

  • Priorize competing demands, following the guidelines of:
    • Providing exceptional service and quality, at a reasonable price - growing loyalty to the Iceplex; and
    • Maximizing food & beverage earnings.
  • Assist or lead in development of operating objectives and budgets.
  • Prepare and present operating and financial results
  • Being part of a team that offers Superior Patron Experience to its patrons.
  • Coordinate with other Iceplex staff, including Program Manager, Master Scheduler, Operations Manager, Retail Manager and other departments as required.
  • Attend regular Iceplex management meetings as required.
  • Other duties as required/assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of food & beverage experience
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills, with a personal hands-on approach.
  • Superior leadership skills
  • Effective use of PC based tools
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, athletes, hockey associations, sponsors, staff, patrons.
  • The ability to motivate, organize and manage staff at all levels effectively both directly and in support of other managers.

  • Able to work flexible hours, including ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Able to work in a demanding environment, providing exceptional service to a variety of stakeholders.

Compensation/Benefits:

Competitive salary and benefits package, to be discussed in the interview process.

Positional details and physical requirements:

  • Expected weekly requirement with event responsibilities are 50 to 55 hours during busy periods.
  • Requirements to stand and walk for long periods on concrete surfaces.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 kg, and regularly lif 5 kg.

ICE CREW - MTS ICEPLEX

Position Summary:

Responsible for ensuring that the ice surfaces and Facility at the MTS Iceplex are properly maintained.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Ongoing:

  • Edge and chip ice as needed
  • Shovel snow away from entrance and exit doors including stairways
  • Apply salt/grit to entrance as needed
  • Ensure all ice pads are resurfaced according to facility schedules
  • Ensure all ice pads are resurfaced according to facility standards
  • Perform weekly/daily maintenance on all ice pads
  • Complete minor repairs on ice surface, dasher boards, safety shields, and all other equipment
  • Carry out janitorial responsibilities
  • Review specific shift information

Periodic:

  • Perform ice resurfacing duties from time to time by operating and driving the Zamboni
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time at the request of the Operations Manager

Organizationally:

  • Attends and participates in all required meetings as determined by management
  • All other related duties within the Operations department, as determined by superiors

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and skills
  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must be physically able to do heavy lifting and comfortable working at heights
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Possess knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods used in ice resurfacing
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • Familiar with tools and maintenance equipment
  • Must be willing to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Specific Requirements:

  • Grade 11 education
  • Able to work flexible hours depending on schedule demands.
  • Must possess a dependable, consistent work record including attendance at work.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must exhibit problem solving and coping skills.
  • Must be a team player with self-starter and leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate a computer and have experience using Microsoft Office programs.
  • Extensive standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and movement of heavy carts to different areas of complex.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
